Hey y’all! So happy that you’re here! I hope you will find these recipes useful as I have spent the past several years and hopefully many more putting them together for you! I am a certified Primal Health Coach, and my food philosophy is to eat what feels good to you and to eat pretty, of course. Eating pretty means eating what nature intended. Basically, if it doesn’t have a mama or grow from the ground, you shouldn’t be eating it. Not to say you should never indulge or treat yourself, but try to keep those times few and far between. Easier said than done, I know.
Eat colorful foods. Before you leave the grocery store, look in your basket. You want to see lots of colors from real, whole foods. At the top of your food pyramid should be meats and vegetables. Then nuts, seeds, and fruits. Don’t be scared of fats….especially grass fed butter. Fats give flavor and help keep you full. Keep sugars to a minimum, even from fruit. Doesn’t that sound easy? It is, and I’m here to help you! I like easy. I hope you find my recipes to be simple and easy to follow. Don’t be scared to get in the kitchen. You must prepare your own food if you want to take control of your health and develop a healthy lifestyle. Become a planner. Become an expert on reading ingredient lists should there be any. The majority of my recipes are Whole 30 approved and/or 21 DSD approved. If you don’t know what that means, google it asap.
My journey to a healthier lifestyle began like many of ours, before my wedding. I was overweight due to a comfortable and happy relationship (haha, always his fault…..he says I tricked him into marrying me with my lasagnas and chicken fried steak). I would work out like crazy and nothing was happening. I wish I would’ve known then that you can’t outwork a poor diet. I knew I had to change something, so I started reading all of Tosca Reno’s Eat Clean books and they made so much sense to me. I began clearing out all the processed foods from my diet and the weight fell off.
Jump forward a few years to a very stressful job, tough family situation, and then pregnancy shortly after. I started having pretty severe stomach pains. A burning sensation all over my abdomen is the best way to describe it. I would curl up in a ball and even contemplated going to the emergency room on several occasions. I finally went to see a gastroenterologist and after many tests, he gave me some pills and sent me on my way. I wasn’t satisfied with this solution. The pills didn’t work and I knew something was wrong that the pills couldn’t fix.
My next move was to see a nutritionist. Based on my symptoms, he diagnosed me with “leaky gut”, got me off of gluten and dairy and BOOM! No. More. Stomach. Pain. I’m not saying this is right for everyone, but it works for me. If you have any digestion issues, autoimmune disorders, weight issues, the lists goes on and on…….you might want to take these inflammation causing foods out of your diet. It was hard at first and still is, at times. But, I know that this lifestyle is how I feel the best. I know what it’s like to feel restricted or in pain from making bad choices, so I hope these recipes will help you and make you feel like you’re not missing out on anything!
